PomfLord Posted June 2, 2022 Share Posted June 2, 2022 SS14 account: Pomflord Character name: Benny slaughter Type of Ban: Perma Date of Ban and Duration: 3/06/22 Reason for Ban: Comms consoling WGW Server you were playing on when banned: Lizard Your side of the story: I was the mime, it was low pop with 20 players and an hour into the round, i was bored and was in the bridge, captain and crew didnt care since id been in there making it my base for half an hour and adding wooden floors. i got bored and stated over announcements that the captain had a file called WGW and then i started to read it out over announcements, i welded the doors since i expected to be lynched and very soon the clown and captain were breaking in to get me, this was fine as its the normal response to WGW. Why you think you should be unbanned: i really dont think i should have been banned at all, WGW is a classic ss13 meme that has been around for more than a decade it is a huge part of the culture and community of ss13 and has spawned countless other variations, reading it out over radio or comms and getting immediately lynched is a game tradition, if the server admins dont want it to happen or discourage it then a warning or kill sign would have been fine, even a temporary ban would have been fine if it was short, I really dont agree with this decision. Anything else we should know: Not much but since i doubt im going to get apealed i just thought id state that i have really enjoyed the game and that i have been playing ss13 for more than a decade and with my experience if you keep insta permaing players for minor shit like this the server population will die which isnt good since this ss14 feels like a proper evolution to ss13 without all the crap byond code. PomfLord Posted June 2, 2022 Author Share Posted June 2, 2022 After going through other ban appeals it seems like getting WGW banned is a regular occurence and i'd reccomend adding a note to the rules that memes like WGW will get you banned, i understand that the server admins are trying to distance ss14's culture from ss13 however if you dont have any notes about that in the rules players like me who come straight from ss13 arnt going to know about it and it will keep happening. There has been a lot of WGW incidents and just about everyone has commented saying something along the lines "its okay in 13 so I thought it would be ok here." or "I don't see any rules saying not to quote WGW over comms." While I do think you may be right about clarifying no erotica/porn in the rule page, rule #5 strictly states Erotic Roleplay (ERP) is not allowed under any circumstance. WGW can be considered a form of ERP and saying it over comms forces other players to have to read and listen to it even if they don't want to hear it, or even worse if they are underage. it should also be noted that if anyone is unsure weather or not something they do will be coming close to breaking any rule, they should not do it without proper clarification from the staff that such is okay. We should always be more safe than sorry when it comes to doing anything remotely close to wondering if an action we take will be considered breaking the rules. These are just my thoughts on the matter though and I'm sure a staff member can clarify much better than I can why WGW is a big no-no around here. Most people don't have an issue with this (even SS13 veterans) and are aware to not spam WGW. That said, obviously it's understood that it won't happen again so this will be an unban.
