A request for a new job grouping called utility job that has its own head.

So as we have janitor as the station cleaning job but i was thinking why not have a whole department like Cargo, Engineering, Security, Medical, Science and Command?

We could see service worker be incorporated into this grouping as the base job similar to the assistance of other job groupings there job would be there to assist the other roles within the utility's department.

The next rank up would be the janitors there role would be keeping the station clean as it is right now be it picking up and emptying rubbish into the bins to be flushed or mopping up spills and dealing with pests like mice problems.

The next rank up would be custodian these guys are more for maintaining things on the station such as repairing jammed bins fixing lights or replacing them repairing posters and or damaged but not fully broken things and restocking fire/emergency equipment that has been used and or damaged there job is to ensure that others within the utility department can keep going on smoothly as well as making sure if a emergency does happen that someone does not end up with a empty oxygen tank or fire extinguisher

Special equipment would be a portable chest trolly that can be loaded with fire/emergency equipment a tool box for repairing stuff around the station and a light replacer.
The custodians belt will have a tool belt that can hold plumbing equipment in case sinks or toilets break down.

The next rank up would be the department head of utility this guy will be in charge of those within the utility department to issue orders of what parts of the station is in need of cleaning as well as repairs that need to be done and fixing the bins around the station when they are jammed as well as ordering stock for the staff under there command.

They will have their own office in the waste treatment section of the station this is where all the rubbish that in the bins gets flushed too to be repurposed and sent to their respective areas around the station one would think that a station would be mindful of waste.

So in the office they will have a panel they can look at that has alerts from other departments around the station requesting clean up or repairs all department heads will have a panel that can send a request to the utility department this is so they do not need to clog up the chat for requests also the utility staff will have their own chat that the head of the department can issue orders from example "could we get a cleaning crew to science please". Another panel in the office will have access to cameras around the station this is so if there are damaged stuff like lights or spillages they can issue orders to the staff.

As for the treatment plant this is where the fun is so you get types of waste that must be processed correctly failure to do so will result in problems happening.
First of all the centrifuge this is for separating liquid waste that then can be put in containers and labeled by the respected staff to then be sent back to science or even the bar please do not pee in it...
Second is the furnace this is for non-recyclable waste stuff like organic materials such as mice or a human body that you want to hide...
Third is the containment processor this is for hazardous materials that has a radioactive element that could prove harmful to someone's health but also could prove a benefit if broken down and sent to cargo to be sold off or sent to science im sure they can figure out something to do with this...

As for transporting the end result you will have trolleys specially designed for hauling this stuff you can send it to cargo and they could turn a profit even maybe ask for cargo to swing by and transport it themselves or send it to science so they can do things with it.

I feel like the utility part of the jobs feels like they really should have a major part on the station rather than just a civilian job.

To simplify this for the cliff notes that and i am really bad at explaining things.

Utility department head (To direct where attention is needed to the rest of the utility staff.)
Custodian (Fixes things such as lights and jammed bins as well as plumbing and restocking.)
Janitor (Cleans spillages/trash and deals with pests.)
Service worker (the assistant of the department to learn the roles.)

Treatment plant for dealing with.
Centrifuge (For separating liquid waste.)
Furnace (For disposing of organic material that can't be repurposed.)
Containment Processor (For repurposing hazardous materials.)

Janitor

Access: Janitor, Maintenance, Service
Difficulty: Easy
Duties: Clean up the station.
SupervisorsHead of Personnel
Subordinates: None
Guides: No guides, only lame.

Disposals spacing is a furnace in and of itself
Service workers are literally in-game already
Containment Processor; Cargo already has a recycler

Okay it's quite clear you didn't even bother to read my post or even understand the purpose of it because it seems like you just cherry picked things to start an argument. I am aware both janitor and service workers are in the game it's literally in the post the whole point of my post is to turn them into a grouping of jobs to add RP elements to the game revolving around utility.

Also realistically stations would not just dump garbage in space due to the station mostly being isolated so it would be reasonable to think waste treatment would play a critical role to reduce waste hence the name WASTE TREATMENT.

The furnace is useable by say antag for putting dead body's in or maybe a zombie outbreak and disposing of dead zombies or maybe just mice or some other pests that are around the station?

Containment processor is for sealing hazardous material aka it processes them so they are safe to move around a recycler would be more for junk itself like containers such as cans or bottles to then refill and restock vending machines.

That's where the centrifuge comes into play separating chemicals such as soda from another chemical to then utilize said soda back into a can or send it to the bar to replenish the stocks or you could put acid in the can and label it as soda.

Next time when you comment read the damn post please...

I did read the post. Everything mentioned is already implemented. You don't need to be an asshole and get all aggressive.

That's where the centrifuge comes into play

literally already exists in chemistry

as JoeHammad said, the departments are stable as they are, and we don't need an extra department to tip the balance and make 15 new roles for a casual civilian job. Imagine trying to play some SS14 just for fun, casually, or even being a new player, hearing janitor is an easy job, and then joining to 3 different people screaming at you over comms while you sort every conceivable matter type into machine A, B, and C while worrying about spills throughout the station. Jani is fine as it is. Pick up trash, clean spill, dump trash in trashcan. Simple.

Also, if you really want this in the game...

just remember to ask the discord for permission first. Big projects require approval from either maintainers or project leaders. I forgot. Ask the discord. Either way, they'll probably say no.

Have a nice day/night/afternoon/morning!

Warentan you claim "You don't need to be an asshole and get all aggressive." yet here you are doing just that the reason i said you clearly did not read the post is because you're response was relating to things already in the game and i made it rather clear in my post that i was using elements already in the game to group them up as well as a few new things to give it a reason to group them up.

This is mostly because from what i can tell the job groupings often have 3+ jobs within them to justify the grouping.

Maybe you would understand the reason i did that was to put less work on those who might consider implementing them because altering things is a lot easier compared to adding something from scratch and last i recall having things organized into say a grouping makes implementing new things later on a lot easier so things are not conflicting compared to having to worry about if you add something will it break other things.

Also you stated wall of text clearly you don't read post because if you read the one directly below it i did a condensed one that was a few lines of text i dubbed cliff notes.

the current formula for jobs and their departments has been around for about 10 years, nothing needs to be changed

That's fair enough to say but it's rather just if they want to keep the idea around for later use in case something does get added that considers it.

I like the idea and clearly you spent some time thinking about it, but I can't imagine how it would work on LRP or even MRP where people really often dont care about their tasks (its not the fault of "lack of department".

Also Head of Utility would have legendary ignited mop?
