Ban reason: [Bigotry: Yelling "Allahu Akbar" before throwing a bag of explosives]

Length of ban: [Appeal only, banned on 1/13/24]

Events leading to the ban: [It was a pretty standard nukie round, the nukies has screwed up pretty badly and all died. I also died in the process of fighting them, and there were some ghost roles for syndicate agents at the (centcom?) station you arrive at on the evac shuttle. We were presented with approximatly 500 tc worth of surplus, after which i proceeded to stuff almost an entire duffel bag full of c4. Fast forward to when the evac shuttle arrived, I yelled the phrase "Allahu akbar" before activating, and throwing the bag of c4 at the shuttle. A couple minutes later, I was contact on ahelp and informed of my ban.]

Reason the ban should be removed: [I was unaware that my behavior violated the rules, at least to such an extreme extent. I thought, especially at the time, that it was a funny joke that might earn a few chuckles from the ghosts spectating. However, I can see how this type of joke could be seen as in violation of the bigotry rule, and I am happy to comply and do my best to keep any future jokes inoffensive. In other words, I wasn't sure how far was "too far" and crossed a line. I'm willing to ensure that any jokes / behavior of this nature don't happen again.]

It mainly falls under under bigotry as it's seen as just a stereotype that has been used to propagate a link between Muslims and Islamic phrases with terrorism. Where the term, in reality, has peaceful and respectful uses normally.

I can see you have had no other issues other than this.  From your appeal, it looks like you understand the issue and will ensure it doesn't happen again.
Appeal accepted.

To enable speedy review of all appeals, appeals that meet certain requirements may bypass the standard, often lengthy, review process. Our banning policy requires appeals which are denied using the speedy review process have this notice placed on them. Any of the following criteria typically make an appeal eligible for the speedy review process:

  • the ban length is less than or equal to 14 days,
  • the appeal is older than 7 days, or
  • the result of the appeal is obvious.

In some cases, the banning admin may process the appeal. The banning admin cannot process the appeal if:

  • the facts that led to the ban are disputed,
  • the appeal makes a claim that the admin who placed it was biased, or
  • the ban was not within the ban guidelines.

You may contact a head game admin if you believe this appeal was handled improperly, but should be aware that this will typically only result in a review of the processing of the appeal itself, with the appeal being re-opened if an issue is found. An appeal is considered to have been processed improperly if the criteria to use the speedy review process was not met, or if the facts which the processing admin relied on to process the appeal were incorrect. You must concisely describe why you believe the appeal was handled improperly. If no issue is found with the processing of the appeal, the appeal itself will not be re-reviewed. If, in bad faith, you claim that an appeal was handled improperly, the reviewing head admin may decide to extend the time you must wait before you appeal and/or extend your ban duration. You can find a full list of staff, including head game admins at the staff directory.
