you should be able to print empty oxygen tanks in the autolathe

there are a limited number of double emergency tanks on a station, and I like to be able to breathe when I have a weapon in my suit storage slot, ill even code it myself if someone can teach me how to put items in an autolathe

Okay, in Resources/Prototypes/Catalog/Fills/Items/gas_tanks.yml, you can see that the name of the item is DoubleEmergencyOxygenTank. The list of items in all lathes go into Resources/Prototypes/Entities/Structures/Machines. Make sure you're putting it in the right place (assuming autolathe, not protolathe). And you'll have to create a recipe somewhere in Resources/Prototypes/Recipes/Lathes (maybe misc.yml).

Putting it into the protolathe, and making it a researchable tech, would be more complicated.

You should probably test things in a private server before submitting. I don't know how to do that. Good luck!

The double emergency tank should not be readily available imo. There's plenty of other oxygen tanks in the station.

If the double emergency tank was readily available then there's no reason to use the other oxygen tanks.

Hm, what is the use-case scenario for this, Joe? Salvaging? Have you ever actually used the double extended for that? Does it work for debris fishing? And for expeditions?

Kaishiba might have a point. Having to manage inventory and/or coordinate with colleagues is part of the challenge. But I'm not entirely convinced that the double extended emergenty tank can replace the regular air tank (it has only 1/7 of the capacity).

When refilled the double emergency oxygen tank can last half of what the regular oxygen tank can and even more than the regular emergency tank that comes in the survival box. If you have a double emergency tank, you really don't need to use the regular oxygen tank or the emergency one.

You can have it on without thought or worry and you'd be fine which is why it shouldn't be readily available. There's a reason why there's so few of the double emergency tanks on stations or none at all.

it could be useful for jobs like salvage if they want to put their a jetpack in the suit storage slot, the emergency tank you start with simply does not have enough air for debris or general spacewalking.

infact, salv should probably start with the engineering extended capacity survival box

A default emergency oxygen tank comes with 0.32 mols and lasts almost 5 minutes. If you fill it to max pressure, it should last you almost 13 minutes. Hopefully that's enough for salvaging debris.

It is possible to turn down the output pressure. You can keep at at 17 for a long time without side effects, and even keeping it at 18 will buy you 25% more time.

Lastly, this is a bit of an exploit and shit RP, but... I'm pretty sure you can freeze the oxygen, and fill the tank to max pressure, turn the output pressure down, and it'll last longer than a double emergency tank at max pressure and room temperature.

I also think its good to mention, that O2 tanks and tanks in general are kinda op, most rounds I can go an entire round with one tank on the entire time. So even if double emergency o2 tanks were made more available, I think they need to be nerfed, its emergency O2 it should not last long. IMO it should last just long enough to leave a spaced area or make it to the shuttle. plus with the new spacing mechanics its much harder to space an area reducing the need for emergency O2
