  1. SS14 account: nhil Character name: Clayton Sheets Type of Ban: Game ban Date of Ban and Duration: Date of ban: 6/7/2022. Duration: Permanent Reason for Ban: Abuse of service on our forums and though it wasn't stated, spamming reconnect on the server while banned. Server you were playing on when banned: Wizard's Den Lizard [US West] Your side of the story: In the night of 6/6/2022 leading into the early morning of 6/7, I was playing ss14 and I had left the ban appeals section of the forum opened on my web browser, during my time playing the game the forums were botted and I assume that since I had the website open at the same time as it occurred, I was banned as well as all the other active users/bots. The next day I went onto the game to get a screenshot of my ban message and decided to just repeatedly click the reconnect button at the bottom of the ban message, and while indeed foolish and childish, I assumed that since I was banned that it wouldn't do anything and only found out it was wrong to do when an admin commented on my appeal about it. Why you think you should be unbanned: It has been three, almost four months since I was banned permanently and while I completely understand being banned for spamming connects on the server and acknowledge I was being immature then, I didn't realize how it would effect the server and I apologize for my foolish actions. For the abuse of service on the forums, I still do not understand why I was banned, my only activity on the forums was and still is writing ban appeals, looking at the appeals of others, and occasionally looking at the accounts of other users, it has never been anything other than that. Anything else we should know: I am genuinely sorry if my prior appeals came off as hostile, I get passionate when accused and I think I was not being very considerate of the moderation team when writing them. I really enjoy the game and miss playing it, it was like the only game I played once I got accepted into early access and I really want to see it grow as it is developed, I miss the funny interactions with people I started to familiarize myself with across rounds and getting to constantly learn new quirks with the game.
  2. SS14 account: nhil Character name: Clayton Sheets Type of Ban: Game ban Date of Ban and Duration: Applied on: 6/7/2022. Ban duration: Permanent Reason for Ban: "Abuse of service on our forums" Server you were playing on when banned: Wizard's Den Lizard [US West] Your side of the story: On 6/6 at 9:52 PM (PST) my friend Jooce posted a link to his account on these forums telling me to look at it because of the funny pfp and banner he had chosen. I looked, had a chuckle, then went to the ban appeals section to see if there was any new interesting appeals that had been submitted until 10 PM. It was then that my friend and I launched SS14 to play a few rounds, and while it was launching, I went back to my browser to open the chemistry and map pages on the SS14 wiki for easier access while playing later, in that moment I unconsciously chose to leave the ban appeals tab open in my browser. I then played SS14 until I was ahelped at 12:30 AM and had a quick uninformative back and forth that left me quite flabbergasted. About an hour before that though, my friend sent a picture of the active users on the forum having several users with christmas in their names, followed by gibberish. I don't recall any discussion about it, rather it just being a little moment of "oh look at this, wonder what's going on" and just continuing to play the game. After I posted my initial appeal, I did look at the active user list and saw that there were still christmas accounts in the active users list, which I screenshotted to show my friend that I had also seen them even after almost 2 hours had passed, at the time though, I didn't believe that they were actually relevant to my case. Why you think you should be unbanned: I believe that I was unfairly banned, and though I cannot confirm this, I presume that moderation took a scorched earth approach to the situation rather than actually investigating the situation, which resulted in me getting banned in the crossfire. Moderation claimed that they had "pretty strong evidence" that suggested people at fault, though this is almost certainly a lie, the most they'd possibly have in the form of evidence, in at least my case, would be that I've been banned once before (suggesting possible motive, though it was only a 24 hour long ban) and that I was on the ban appeals section of the forums while everything took place. Paper thin is much more applicable than "pretty strong" in this case. And while I don't know any of the details of logging info on the server, I know that there are some sort of logs showing me actively playing from around 10 PM - 12:31 AM which is a decent alibi. Anything else we should know: My initial appeal for this ban was relatively all speculation for what I had done wrong, moderation seemed to not even bother putting in any effort to detail to me what I had done wrong, having to get any information regarding the situation from my friend conversing with moderation through discord DMs after several days had passed, but I can't put too much fault considering mods were probably thrown off balance with having to settle everything, it's just unfortunate that I was not given anything to go off of, especially considering I did not even know what had happened in the first place. It's a whole guilty until proven innocent and wrong place at the wrong time situation. In the end, all I'd like is just to be able to play on the server again, at the very least I'd prefer if I'm banned off the forums permanently instead of the server, should you for some reason still believe that I'm some culprit. Also something relevant but unrelated directly to the ban, about a week ago/day after I was banned, I went on the server to get another screenshot of the ban message and after doing that could not resist the urge to keep clicking the retry button at the bottom of the message, I genuinely did not realize that each time I clicked the retry button that it was logged, I figured that since it said failed to connect that nothing was even going through, so I am sorry for flooding the logs. Doing that resulted in my former appeal becoming void and I was told to appeal again in a week, so here we are.
  3. SS14 account: nhil Character name: Clayton Sheets. Type of Ban: Game ban (?) Date of Ban and Duration: Applied on: 6/7/2022. Ban duration: Permanent Reason for Ban: "Abuse of service on our forums" Server you were playing on when banned: Wizard's Den Lizard [US West] Your side of the story: Before the ban, I had just gotten back from going to the bathroom in the middle of a round on waystation when I received an ahelp which should included in the attached files. I believe that this ban is because I refreshed my profile page a large number of times after I noticed that the visit count went up after each refresh, which upon noticing, decided to take advantage of to make the profile visits on my page grow. Why you think you should be unbanned: Having reviewed the rules several times as of writing this appeal, I could only conclude that I may have violated either the 3rd rule or 2nd rule, though for the 2nd rule it states "No griefing, spamming or intentionally derailing discussions" and I have not even posted or commented on anything up until the composition of this appeal, so I'm unsure of both how blurred the lines are in consideration to spamming refresh on a page. And as for the possible 3rd rule violation, my profile image is a little stickman lighting themself on fire, so I could assume that would be taken as a form of NSFW, though again, that rule is also in regards to discussions, which again, I have not commented or made any posts of my own. I suppose I am just very confused about the whole ban reason in general though, and I'd say the admin that I assumed banned me (the one that sent me the ahelp message) failed to properly address what I actually did in the moment, ignoring my requests to know what I had done wrong to get at least some clarification. I do understand that being able to artificially inflate the profile view count is almost certainly NOT an intended feature of the website and I probably should've left it alone, though it is a feature that can be disabled, so I don't see why a simple message telling me to disable it because it's not an accurate representation wouldn't have sufficed, same for the profile image. I am sorry if I truly broke any of the forum rules, and will remedy the two things I addressed immediately after posting this appeal. Anything else we should know: I don't exactly know if this is relevant, but I initially signed up on the forums on 6/5 because I wanted to appeal another ban I had gotten for "metacomming" that I also believed was unjust, however since it was only a day long I decided not to bother appealing. It was around that time I realized that refreshing the page increased the profile view count and decided to spend a little bit making the number rise. My only other activity on the forum was reading the ban appeals of other players both on 6/5 and in the afternoon of 6/6. This is technically my second offense, though I'm of the opinion that I am not guilty of at least the first one, and since this is my second offense, I can understand that the punishment would be more significant. However, from one day to permanent seems like an absurd jump, especially considering I fondly recall appeals from people who have been banned 3+ times and still have access. I do have two questions to whichever admin/moderator reviews this, being: 1) How come I was banned on the game if the ban is forum related? Sorry if that seems ignorant, but I'd expect to be removed from both or had it flipped. And 2) If this happened a day ago, why did the punishment take until today? Finally, if there is anything here that needs clarification in this post, I am more than happy to reply to the best of my ability, since it is now 1:40 am as of writing this sentence, I'm sure my writing and comprehension abilities are not at 100%. Also, I realize that after proofreading my "Why you think you should be unbanned" portion of this appeal, it is not exactly all me saying why I should be unbanned, I'd like to say that that is mostly because of the ambiguity of the actual ban reason and the lack of communication, which left me in a difficult place trying to actually formulate a single clear reason. Thank you, and sorry if you had to read through that whole mess, I have a very bad tendency to write a lot in situations like these where I have to defend myself.
