  1. In-game Username: pocopotato Discord username: pocopotato Characters you play: Nomu Tsech How long have you been playing SS13 or SS14? I’m rather new to SS14 with 230+ hours on steam. I also used to play SS13 many years ago on your normal servers (goon, tg, paradise, etc.). Unfortunately I can't access BYOND with my current computer and don't remember my credentials so I can’t exactly verify my time but my estimate could have been almost 1000 hours in total. How many hours are you available per day: On weekends and fridays around 6 hours. On weekdays it varies but around 3-4 hours. This varies a little though due to work. Days you are available on: I should be available everyday. On days without work it will be pretty much all day but on days with work which is 3-4 days a week, it will be more limited to 3-4 hours. Prior administration experience (SS13 experience recommended). Please also post a way for us to verify this: I do not have any past SS13 admin experience but I was friends with quite a few server admins when I used to play, so I do know lots of admin mechanics. I don’t have any other experience with server management time administration but I do have some experience with the sort of HR management when it comes to answering questions and doing logs and more of the behind the scenes administration. Unfortunately I also don't have a way to prove this because these communities are long gone. Have you been banned from our game servers or SS13 servers before? I was once for self-antagging. This is the more essay-y part of the application, you should answer the following questions in detail, so we can get a better idea of how you'd approach adminning. What role do you think game admins serve on our servers? Game admins are not only the moderators and peace keepers of SS14 servers but they’re also the game builders who help shape the story of a round. Admins are tasked with keeping users safe, improving their gaming experience, and helping out with any issues or questions users have (aHelp, forum questions, etc.). Not only in-game but also on socials like Discord and the Forum are admins needed to provide their experience and knowledge to everyone from new users learning the basics, to even contributors if an admin has development knowledge. Moderation in-game often involves answering aHelp, reviewing issues with people breaking the rules, and dealing with punishments like bans and warnings and the logging of all this information. Story building for an admin often involves spawning random events like solar flares, meteors, crates and even major events like zombies. This admin intervention allows for a more interesting game where AI/code can’t determine the best development of a round's plot . If in the future you have the ablity to take on a larger role it may include moderating the discord and other things like answering admin applications for example. How do you feel about the current roleplay status on the server? I believe the current roleplay scene for SS14 servers (mainly official ones like lizard) is very sustainable and isn’t bad by any means. That saying it does require lots of work to improve it even more. My experience is largely in LRP servers where the rules are often very loose and are often not implemented in-game perfectly. Even though I personally don’t believe using abbreviations like idk, thx and lol aren’t super damaging to the roleplay experience I do keep others in mind and I know that it’s against the rules. Many other not realistic situations like promoting without head consent, the remembering/death rules and self-antaging could be enforced more and would hopefully improve the roleplaying experience. I also feel that sometimes people have expectations that MRP rules will be always enforced on servers like lizard which I find unrealistic. I do feel for the people who wish for an MRP experience but salamander just doesn't have a large population. Why do you want to become an administrator for SS14? SS14 is still a generally new game compared the time SS13 has had to develop to where it is. SS14 still has lots of development needed. Especially recently I’ve seen lots of issues with self-antaging, abuse of power and even people enforcing fake rules either on purpose or by accident. I believe I can personally play an effective role in helping the community and solving issues in-game. I can provide a neutral and unbiased opinion and can help educate others on the rules of SS14. Unfortunately I feel recently that there have been lots of times where servers will be very understaffed when it comes to admins and now with Leviathan now also having a semi-consistent playerbase, that makes it more busy with now 2 quite large servers to manage. The community has so much potential and is so promising; and I’d just love to be a part of the journey forward. I used to love playing SS13 years ago. The community was so creative and inventive and allowed the game to flourish. Since then I’ve missed it quite a lot and never was able to get back into playing it. Here comes SS14 and this is the most promising remake of SS13 and remake of a game in general. I’m very excited to see how I can grow with the community in the future. Other than banning problematic players, what admin actions do you believe have the biggest positive impact? I always feel that it’s the small things admins do that make me the happiest. Whether it’s adding fun events to the game, admemeing at the end of rounds, or if it’s the kindness or little :) they add at the end of messages after they help you with a query. Just the way they treat situations and how they treat other players as people and don’t just ridicule or get mad at like people always do in-game. Have you ever had a negative experience in the game or with a game admin? If so what, if anything, would you do to prevent other players from experiencing this? No I haven’t. Honestly I have never had even a slightly rude admin. Can’t say that for the other people that play this game though. Yes I’m being shady. I would just treat other players as humans, respect them and not use my powers as an admin in an abusive way. Have you ever had a good experience with the game or a game admin? If so, what was it? This is a funny question because I feel as though almost all the time I interact with admins it’s positive. But I especially love when they let loose a little and create fun events for the station once in a while. For example xeno invasions, immovable rod, the suspicious centcom agents that always want my nuke disk for some reason and especially that one time when we had the purge that was really fun. The following are scenarios, respond with how you would handle each as an administrator. Respond with the assumption that you are an administrator with full access to the admin tools, and that you have all the knowledge needed to use these tools. Respond in detail, explain the reasons behind decisions you make and describe any assumptions you are making. When you need to make an assumption, it is preferred for you to describe how differences in the assumption would affect your actions. It is the start of the round. There are 60 players on the server. The game mode is traitors, traitors have not been selected yet. A chaplain prays to you "Give me a task my lord". Firstly, I wouldn’t do this for everyone every time a chaplain asked but if I feel once in a while it is suitable to provide an antagonist task to the chaplain, I would. I'd first assess whether or not the time is appropriate to give the chaplain an antag role. If I find it is a good time then I would provide a created and curated IC response to the chaplain and send him on his merry way. But with that also remembering that getting in the way of the random selection when it comes to rolling antags is sometimes risky and depending on how often this occurs it could become an issue of people automatically assuming the chaplain has a higher chance of rolling antag due to this leniency. You see a clown using crayon to write on the floor in front of security. The clown writings are negative things about security, like "shitsec". A secoff tells the clown that they're being arrested for vandalism, stuns them, and cuffs them. Before the secoff is able to get the clown into the brig, a passenger slips the secoff, causing them to lose their baton, then uses the baton to stun another secoff that comes to help as the clown runs away. The passenger escapes through disposals. In this situation I don’t believe admin intervention is needed. Here it’s a little bit of a grey area when it comes to the passenger interfering with sec because on one hand they could both be syndies working together or on the other hand they could be a serial self-antager who is doing it purely for annoying other players. I would spectate and make sure I keep an eye on the situation just in case it progresses. If it does and someone requests admin intervention then I’ll be there to assist. You log in to handle an ahelp that came in while nobody was online about "self-antag" activity. The player being reported as self-antagging was being a problem and could be considered acting outside of the rules, but they are no longer online and cannot be contacted about their behavior. While outside of the rules, the infractions are minor and would not normally result in more than a warning in most cases. Assuming the only information I have on this person is who they are and someone reporting they were self-antagging, I would first gather enough information to create a solid reasoning with facts and proof against this person. Once this information is gathered and the situation is deemed worthy of action I would, depending on the severity of the self-antag serve them a ban, either for a few days or until appealed. The reason I would decide this is from personal experience. I was banned for self-antagging because I left the game before I could be contacted. From there on I would keep tabs on the appeals forum where the player and me or another admin could decide on further action to take depending on the response. Sorry for any weird formatting and thank you for taking time to review my app.
  2. SS14 account username: pocopotato Ban reason: Setting off a plasma grenade in med and then killing myself and leaving before I could be contacted Date of ban: June 16 2023 Length of ban: Until appealed Events leading to the ban: I was captain and it was a pretty uneventful round. I was a little drunk and I had to log off so I forgot I was supposed to contact an admin and instead just thought I should find a sort of storyline like way to kill myself instead of leaving my body SSD. I basically set off a plasma bomb and when I was revived I just went out into space and died, thought nothing of it and logged off. Reason the ban should be removed: I do know the rules and I've never done this sort of thing before. I wasn't thinking right and didn't take enough consideration into the other players experiences that I ruined. I thought adding some sort of dramatic death for myself would have spiced up the game but realistically that wasn't my decision to make and was a very bad decision to make. I'm sorry for partaking in this sort of foolish behaviour, especially as an important role such as captain. I now realise I'm in the wrong and will put my all into making sure this doesn't happen again. I also know I'm not in the place to ask of this but I've played many shifts as captain, and I'm able to do my duties correctly and well, I just hope this doesn't end up in a role ban.
